Welcome visitor to the Tjideng Camp Site.
It is 64 years ago when Tjideng Camp was created in Batavia ( the spelling now is Cideng and the city is Jakarta), but throughout this site I will use Tjideng as all material will refer back to those days before the Indonesian spelling.
This site is meant for those people who have been in the camp, or for the survivors of those who have died there or after.

I will endevour to collect as much material as possible for those who want to remember and those who want to know what actually happened in the period from 1942 - 1946. I purposely do not mention the date that surrender by the Japanese was signed, as for many the war continued to exsist, and for many the actual day was not known for a long time.

So, if you are interested to read, research, comment or would like to add to the information here, please join this group. It's about time we start talking about these things, before it is too late. I am nearly 64 and was a baby when entering the camp. Many older people are not there anymore to ask. So if you have been in this camp too, please come forward with your stories, so as we can put together a site the next generations can visit.

Regards, Marguerite.

ThumbnailGreat reading, auto biography in a way, dealing with pre- and postwar events as well as WWII itself. The Tjideng site plays a small part in this book as the author also was in Tjihapit. Boudewijn has done a lot of research into all historical facts.... more

Marguerite, thank you for this new list, it is a real mystery. I have asked the Dutch Red Cross for help and they indicated they will reply within 2 months. In meantime, I'll keep searching.

Richard, just found another list and your mother is on there as Mrs. Anthonijsz- van der Ven with again only herself registered. So....either it is a mistake or she deliberately didn't want to register you and your siblings.
I had never seen this list and I now found my grandmother, aunt and cousin there too, as it is at the end of the war and they too had been in Tjihapit and were transported later to Tjideng.
